5 Post Ski Exercises — Ripple Boston

Did you tomahawk into a hard-pack mogul this weekend?

Unfortunately, we can't help with that.

BUT -- what we can help with is getting your joints to be a little less cranky after a weekend of hard carves (or some pizza, french fry turns). That's wheelhouse for our Boston Physical Therapists.

You know that feeling when you finally take your ski boots off after a long day of skiing?  Better than the first sip of your Apres beer, right?  Well, maybe not.

But!  That feeling feels so good because your ankle and foot have been stuck in the same position for the last 5 hours. Not only that, but your foot is frozen, your knee hurts from hitting the bumps one too many times, and your back is killing because you hit an edge and took a spill on your last run of the day.

Our Physical Therapists say that one of the BEST things you can do to help mitigate all those aches and pains is to make sure you de-patternize all the skiing you've done, and intentionally move your joints through ranges of motion they need after skiing.

That means;

Your foot that's been stuck in a boot needs to move out of that one position

Your knee that's just flexed and extended over bumps needs to rotate

Your hips that have been absorbing your bodyweight needs to be properly stretched

Your spine that's taken the load of you jamming down the hill needs to decompress with movement

With all those things considered, we developed the 5 Ski Exercises you should do EVERY DAY to combat all those factors. That's why we created the 5 BEST mobility exercises to do after a ski day.  Served best with a cold beer!

So you've got your Post ski exercises done and are feeling good.  But, what about a ski warmup?

Ah-ha!  We've got you covered.

The warmup is MORE important than the cooldown in regards to mitigating injury on the slopes. And to be honest, it doesn't take much.  Much like our post-ski routine, we also put together a ski day warmup that's a 10-minute follow-along video.  Do it while you're putting your boots on, waiting in the lodge for that friend who takes forever, or in the gondola line.  You won't regret it!

Need anything else from us?  Skiing or general injury related?  We got you, in-person or virtual.  Schedule a call or shoot us a text (617)275-6022.

Cheers!
