Why Boston Golfers Need a TPI Golf Screen

Why Boston Golfers Need a TPI Golf Screen

At the start of our Golf Mobility program, every golfer starts with a TPI golf screen — but what is it?

The TPI screen is 16 movements full-body functional movement screen to examine your motion and determine any limitation on your golf swing. The golf swing is a dynamic and powerful movement requiring both stability and flexibility in order to be mechanically efficient and accurate. The screen assesses strength, mobility, and flexibility as they relate to this motion.

By assessing golf mechanics we can identify any restrictions within the swing as well as any potential injury-inducing mechanics you may have that could hurt you over time. The results you will receive from the screen are coined your “body-swing connection” and link how your mobility may be altering your swing. Want to assess your swing at home? What is the TPI screen?

The screen examines

  • Pelvic rotation

  • Pelvic tilt

  • Bridge with leg extension

  • Single leg balance

  • Lower quarter rotation

  • Toe touch

  • Seated trunk rotation

  • Lat test

  • 90/90 shoulder rotation

  • Cervical rotation

  • Forearm rotation

  • Wrist extension

  • Wrist flexion

  • Wrist hinge/ deviation

In combination with a video analysis of your golf swing we are able to see what you are doing now and correlate that with any potential restrictions found in the screen.

Why get the TPI screen?

As said by Arnold Palmer, “Swing your Swing”. If you watch any of the pros you will see a huge variety of shapes and sizes and clubs moving across all different angles and planes. The TPI screen and program recognize that there is no “perfect swing” but determining what is most efficient for you individually will improve your game over time.  You also have the watchful eye of a Physical Therapist overlooking your swing and mobility — there’s no one better to do that.

It also helps you rule out why you may be getting some of golfs most common injuries Knowing where your swing is going wrong, or the path you're always taking can help understand why your elbow or hip hurts. That's what the TPI screen does!

Ultimately completing the TPI screen will help you to understand the most efficient and effective swing for your body and how to customize around your limitations. Whether you are a scratch golfer or in it for the afternoon beer, the TPI screen is worth the time to improve the swing and create a fitness program specific to your mobility findings and specific the dynamics of golf.
